My name is John and this is what gives me drive.
1952 Montijo, Portugal.
My great-grandfather opened his first driving school, named it Silvano Saraiva and it became one of the first driving schools in Portugal.
Now it’s still running, and is one of the oldest schools in the country.
Years go by and my grandparents take over the school.
My grandmother became the first female driving instructor in Portugal and expanded the company by opening 2 more locations in nearby towns.
Legend says that she can drive anything, even a tank.
I grew up around driving instructors so in 2013 I decided to follow my family footsteps and began the journey to get my instructor license. On the 20th of March 2014 I pass my theory bringing me one step closer to my goal.
I taught theory lessons for a full year at my family’s school.
On the 4th of March 2015 passed my final exam becoming officially the fourth generation driving instructor in my family.
2019 – The legacy of my family lives on here in Glasgow.
You can say that teaching people how to drive is in my DNA.
